Gail Scullion, Music DirectorGail has been a Wellspring member since 1986 and has led our music program since 1995. Gail grew up outside of Pittsburgh in a family of Methodists; her grandfather served as the pastor for three small country churches. Gail's musical talents were recognized early, and she routinely sang solos in church and school choirs. Later, as a young professional musician, she spent 12 years on the road managing and singing with her own band in hotels, clubs, and cruise ships. As the Music Director of Wellspring, Gail employs her wide-ranging musical experience and her rare talent to recruit and encourage musicians at all levels from preschoolers to adults. She directs both the Junior and Youth choirs and is the founder and leader of Wellspring's contemporary band, Cross Purposes. Gail also promotes the formation of new musical groups. For Gail, music not only enhances but is as an integral part of the worship service. She works closely with Pastor Jim and the worship team to insure that each worship service is more than the sum of its parts. She is always seeking out additional hidden musicians among the congregation, for either regular or occasional musical contributions. Gail's talent for working with children is reflected in both the music and infectious joy of our Junior and Youth Choirs. Independent of her formal Wellspring duties, Gail sings professionally in the local area and has recently established a blossoming Kindermusik program to train young children in the fundamentals of music. It is a testament to Gail that several of these Kindermusik families have subsequently joined Wellspring! Gail and her musical husband Tim raised three daughters, Barb, Heather, and Amy, whose families are also Wellspring members. |
